This category of workers have an option to come to Canada to work temporarily or become a permanent resident.
Temporary Work for Caregivers
With any reason you are ineligible to become a permanent resident on the pathway of caregiver, you always have a chance to apply to work temporarily. Being already in Canada and working as a caregiver entitles you to extend your work permit. In that case, your employer is required to provide you with a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). Most cases through the TFWP, you can apply for a work permit temporarily provided you are in Canada and eligible to apply for a work permit from inside Canada or your employer applied for a LMIA before June 2019 and you were outside Canada or if you will be working in Quebec.
You will not be entitled to apply for a new work permit if your employer applied for LMIA on or after June 18th, 2019. It is the same case if you have plans to work in a province or territory other than Quebec. Applying for a work permit at the port of entry on or after April 22, 2022 or being a visitor and you apply for your first work permit on the same day or after is all reason that you can’t apply for a new work permit.
Permanent Residence for Caregivers
Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker Pilot: To apply to permanent residency through this program if you meet the eligibility requirements and have a job offer to work in one of these occupations. While having these pilots on hand, it entitles you to get an open work permit for which occupation is restricted, does not require an LMIA, allows you to get work experience you require to be eligible for permanent resident application.
Live-In Caregiver Program is applied when you have at least 2 years of work experience in the program working in Canada, you were approved for your first LCP work permit based on a Labour Market Impact Assessment which was submitted on or before November 30, 2014 to Employment and Social Development Canada.
